Quieting noisy waste lines
I want to finish part of my basement, but my main waste line runs along one of the walls and its very noisy when water goes gurgling through the pipe. How can I reduce the noise?
Noisy waste lines are a more common problem now that most main waste lines are plastic (PVC) rather than cast iron. The fastest and most reliable (but not necessarily the least expensive) solution is to install a heavy vinyl barrier with a foam backing called noise barrier with decoupler.
