    AIA Continuing Education Whole System Acoustical Treatments

    Courtesy of a co-sponsorship from Acoustical Surfaces, Inc., design and construction professionals can earn an AIA Continuing Education HSW (health, safety and welfare) and SD (sustainable design) credit by reading up on Whole System Acoustical Treatments online and successfully answering test questions at the end of the article.

    After reading the article, which focuses on acoustics sustainability, including interior acoustics fundamentals, sound transmission class, impact insulation class, and more, design and construction professionals will be able to:

    • Analyze and explore the fundamentals of interior acoustical design treatment and their relationship to green buildings and sustainable desgin.
    • Examine the primary selection and specification characteristics of interior acoustical treatments.
    • Assess the multiple other qualities of acoustical treatments that can contribute to green and sustainable building design.
    • Recognize and identify the elements of a whole system approach to acoustical management that collectively contribute to sustainable indoor environmental quality.

    All active registered architect AIA members may complete their required annual Continuing Education Credits through Architectural Record. This includes all 18 Continuing Education Hours (CEHs) each year. Of the 18 CEHs, 12 hours must address HSW and 4 hours must address SD.

    Depending on when you take a course online in Architectural Record’s Continuing Education Center, it can take between 1 to 2 weeks for your credits to appear on your AIA member transcript.
